The 2019 Honda Insight: Trim Levels, Mileage & Features

2019 Honda Insight

The 2019 Honda Insight, Honda’s latest addition to its expanding lineup of electrified vehicles, offers drivers a stylish, sophisticated ride and one heck of a fuel economy — a 55 mpg EPA city rating on LX and EX trims, and a 51 mpg EPA city rating on the Touring trim.* EPA fuel-economy ratings (city/highway/combined) across Insight trim levels are as follows: LX 55/49/52; EX 55/49/52; and, Touring 51/45/48.

Powered by Honda’s third generation two-motor hybrid drivetrain, the all-new Insight operates without a conventional automatic transmission. Instead, its 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle inline-4 engine is paired to an electric propulsion motor that produces 197 lb.-ft. of torque to deliver a class-leading output of 151 horsepower and 40.5% thermal efficiency. And the efficiency fun doesn’t stop there.

Insight drivers may maximize their energy regeneration through steering wheel-mounted Deceleration Selectors, which work similarly to transmission paddle shifters. Drivers may toggle between three levels of regenerative braking performance to increase or reduce regenerative braking, which not only increases battery charging but also reduces stress on the brakes.

By using power from the gasoline engine and electric motor, the Insight can accommodate current driving conditions by shifting through three distinct driving modes — EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive. When in EV Drive the Insight is powered by the elector motor and draws power solely from its battery. In Hybrid Drive, the gas engine powers a generator motor to supply electrical power to the drive motor. And in Engine Drive, the gasoline engine connects directly to the drive wheels.

All these words and we haven’t said a thing about style!

The spacious, 5-seater Insight is sophisticated and refined with a sporty, dynamic edge, and a rich interior cabin that delivers a premium, upscale driving experience for everyone onboard. From Honda’s signature “flying wing” grille to the Insight’s coupe-like roofline, the Insight blends recognizable Civic and Accord design elements to create a look that is uniquely its own, yet definitely Honda.

Standard features across trim levels include multi-element LED headlights, push-button start, and Honda Sensing — Honda’s advanced suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies. The Insight EX trim includes an 8-inch Display Audio with smartphone integration, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. The Insight Touring includes leather seating surfaces, an 8-way power driver’s seat, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more.

Unlike other hybrids with bulky battery packs and scant room for storage, the Insight’s battery is stored in a compact intelligent power unit that is mounted under the rear seats. This smarter battery storage allows for an enviable degree of trunk space — 15.1 cubic ft. — and the ability to fold the rear seats back to accommodate for longer loads. Plus,

with up to 97.6 cubic ft. of interior space and class-leading rear legroom, the Insight offers best-in-class passenger space. All aboard, tall people!
